Royal Blessing Marks Historic Milestone for Apunren Community. by Adenaike Oluwaseun Adebanjo special correspondence Ijebu Ode, May 13, 2025 – A significant step toward justice and unity was taken today as His Royal Majesty, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, bestowed his royal blessing on the Oba-elect of the Apunren community, Chief Jimson Owode Oyelaja. The ceremony, held under the auspices of traditional leadership, followed an in-depth investigation by the Dagburewe of Idowa and the Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo. The leaders had met with representatives from both Apunren and Isonyin to address claims of independence, unjust intimidation, and victimization faced by the Apunren community. After concluding their extensive inquiries, a detailed report was presented to the Alayeluwa, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who, convinced by the findings, extended his blessing to Chief Jimson Owode Oyelaja. This is seen in people’s desire to link to their history through many paths such as proclamations, government documents, hearing the stories of our ancestors and much more. The history of different communities and areas in Ijebu and Ogun state is mostly unwritten. Many history that we read today barely exist many years ago until certain people rely on the stories told to them by their fathers and handed down to the children.
